30sec//set 17 & 18

Aaargh, I haven't been drawing in months. Now it's time to put and end to this nonsense. I opened 30 seconds drawing tool at Posemaniacs again yesterday and started to draw. I also realized that it's a whole year since I started to post my 30sec sketches. So far the results concerning my drawing skills are DISSAPOINTING! :) Ok, I have been more inactive than I intended. Lesson here? I should draw more.

Never Ending Random Roughs

The Randomness Continues

Asko

Here's an illustration that I did for Pro Golf Magazine. The Man in the picture, Asko, is a golf referree, who answers the mind boggling golf questions sent by the readers.

Nautical Landscape Experiments

I'm terrible with landscapes and sceneries. I usually try to avoid painting environments and settings but a great urge to learn to paint those, just raised it's head.

30minutes each w/ Photoshop.

Pale Girl - Acrylic

This is a very quickly painted portrait of a pale girl. Took about an hour to or less to paint. 50x59cm on canvas. Sorry for the poor photograph. Looks much better in real life in my opinion.

Vol 1 - First oil painting

This is my first actual oil painting that really set up the passion for my oil painting activity. I've painted randomly few paintings berore this, but this painting marks the turning point when I actually started, really, to paint with oil colors.

The painting it self is a compilation of illustrated ramdom events that I went through during last summer (2008). These coindidences seemed to be linked in a very strange way. It was sort of an equation. And the sum of that equation seemed to be a manuscript to a painting as well a manual on how to continue with the next paintings.

The painting has several names, but I dont know just yet which one to choose. So for the time beign, it's just vol 1, because it's my first oil painting. It is painted on 65x81cm canvas.

Secrets of the guild

This pic is already couple of months old. I'm fascinated by the still life paintings of the baroque, but I know for sure that I don't have the skills for doing that my self. None the less I wanted to aim for that kind of mood so I had to select a technique more suitable for me. So obviously this is a photo based digital painting.

Here is the original photo. No, it is not a stock photo. I took that photo with my recently deceased Canon Ixus 400 and started to paint on that.

Chick adventure WIP

Sneak peak of an unfinished digital painting.

Lately I've had very little of free time to draw or paint. Here's something that I've been working on every now and then. This is a work in progress and it's quite silly honestly. It's just random ideas put together. I basically wanted to TRY to paint a land scape. Later I decided to throw a couple of characters into to the scene and come up with a sort of a adventure pic of these girls in the jungle. Kinda inspired by the Kodak Girl.

The whole thing is going to change million times before it's finished. I actually dont feel comfortable of posting works in an early stage because you can now see very clearly how stiff my work flow is in worst cases. I'm currently lacking a good flow and a relaxed style. It's all because the small amount of painting during the last months. Let's hope that I'll be able to finish this some day! Gotta do more really quick paintings and random sketches to get into the mood again.

New pictures coming really soon!

Usually people say on their web pages "coming soon" without actually meaning it. Keeping in mind that I may forget to post new pics really soon, I want to announce that I am actually going to do so really soon. Altough, during the last months, I've had very little of free time to draw and paint. I've been none the less painting with oil colors and compressed my art rage, caused by the lack of time, into those paintings. So thus, I'm turning this blog from plain drawing blog into a drawing and painting blog.

So all kind of different kind of (not just those 30 sec drawings) new material coming up soooooon!

Random sketches (set #1)

I didn't use time limit at these. If I'd have to say, it took about 45-60sec to finish each. I tried to keep a fast pace to avoid focusing too much on details.

Elvgren skteches with no time limit

My lord! Whats with the shape of those heads?

So I didn't any time limit while drawing these. My quess is that each drawing took about 2-4 minutes. Time limit really helps you get going. Without it something like this can easily happen... appearantly. You know, the temptation to over do details is strong. More clever thing is to just keep going, without stopping, and time limit really pushes you to do it.

Tools used again: Photoshop and book of Gil Elvgrens works as reference material.

Elvgren sketches in 60 seconds (set #2)

Have you noticed that everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is always abit harder than you first thought? My first Elvgres sketch set was... how could I say this? Well... looks like crap. Clothed model or reference is a hard one because it's hard to read the figures beneath the clothes. Elvgren girls doesn't have that much of clothes on them, but that's enought to make disturbance. That disturbance appears in these drawings as pointy and angular strokes. And that really ruins everything! I tried to make another set, this time keeping in mind this problem and trying to avoid it. Dunno how well I did. Time limit was again 60 seconds and the tool was Photoshop.

Elvgren sketches in 60 seconds (set #1)

Gil Elvgren is my favourite pin-up artist. I have an excellent book, published by Taschen, that presents most of his works. And thats alot! Anyways, I'm happy to own a copy of that book, and I got an idea to use it as a reference material for quick sketching. I used my cell phone's timer to make sure I'd stop drawing each time when 60sec was full.

15 second drawings (set #1)

Time is relative as everyone knows. 15 seconds can be a really long time if you have hold your hand in a fire, but it's a annoyingly short time when you have to come up with a drawing in that time. So these are each drawn in Photoshop in fifteen seconds. Believe me, it's harder than it sounds. I think I should try 10 second time limit also... could be fun.

30 second drawings (set #6)

Maybe it's cos I missed my five o'clock coffee or something but these suck! Gotta be more relaxed, otherwise this wont work out at all. I wonder if I remembered to breathe while doing these?

30 second drawings (set #5)

These are done during the morning so i think there's some stiffness in most of these. Hard to draw while still sleepy. Check out the 2nd drawing from the left on 4th row... that's a really smooth and fluent one. I'd like to see more of those! Only few lines but still a relatively good sense of fleshy sensuality.

30 second drawings (set #4)

These are propably the worst ones yet...

21.7.08

30 second drawings (set #3)

The flu has gotten me again so i had some extra freetime today. I could've done something about the dishes in the kicthen sink, but you know...

Actually theres couple of quite good ones in this set. I hate when my hand simply just doesnt do what my brain is telling it to to! That creates those non-confident extra lines in every drawing. How ever, as you can see I have here couple of drawings that are pretty fluent and doesn't have THAT much of those messy extra strokes.

30 second drawings (set #2)

I did about 35 of these today in Photoshop. Here's some of those. I thinking of buying a new Wacom, since it's really hard to draw with this six years old A6-tablet. It's a wonder that it still works.

20.7.08

30 second drawings (set #1)

Okay my first dump. I'm trying really hard to get better in figure drawing so I'm trying to do these 30sec drawings as much as possible. So far not so good. Lets see after couple of thoulsand more of these.
